Structured electronic health records are inherently limited because the bulk of information related to total joint arthroplasty is embedded in unstructured narrative text of the records. Researchers in the American Joint Replacement Research-Collaborative are leveraging Mayo Clinic's unique data resources and natural language processing expertise to build an informatics infrastructure for automated extraction and analysis of total joint replacement data.
